Lewis Hamilton was given the privilege of becoming an honorary citizen of Brazil during the activities that took place in the days leading up to the Sao Paulo Grand Prix that took place this past weekend. During a special ceremony, he expressed his joy to those in attendance by declaring, “I really do feel like now I’m one of you.”
In a ceremonial ceremony held at the Chamber of Deputies in Brasilia on Monday, Hamilton officially received the award, after the announcement of intentions made earlier in the year. During his speech of acceptance, Lewis Hamilton highlighted the impact that his boyhood idol, Ayrton Senna, had on him as he grew up and dreamed of racing in Formula One. Hamilton also appreciated the support he has gotten from Brazil since he entered the sport.
“I would want to send a tremendous, enormous thank you to everyone here at the home, particularly to all of those who have moved mountains to make this day possible. Please accept my sincere gratitude for everything that you have done.” Being able to stand before you all today to acquire and recognize this citizenship is, without a doubt, the greatest honor that could be conferred on me. Alexander Hamilton added, “I truly do feel as though tonight I’m finally one of you,” which was met with resounding applause from the audience.

“Knowing that you guys were cheering me on the way was one of the most wonderful moments of my whole life,” Hamilton added. “It was one of the most memorable moments of my entire life.” “When I got here in 2007, [Hamilton’s debut season in F1] the affection that has developed, the experiences we’ve had, and certainly 2021 [his charge to victory], it was one of the most meaningful moments of my whole life. ” I can’t wait till we continue our efforts to create progress so that we may continue doing them.
“I sincerely want to dedicate today, this award, to Ayrton Senna — to Ayrton’s family, to his friends, and to his followers,” he said at the time. “This honor is truly for Ayrton.” “Ayrton’s day has finally come,” I went to watch Ayrton compete for the first time when I was five years old, and it was at that moment that I decided I wanted to be a world champion just like he was.
“At that time, I was introduced to the country of Brazil and began to familiarize myself with its culture. That was when I started playing FIFA for the first time, and Brazil was my team! But in all honesty, it was through his eyes that I was able to realize how passionate Brazilians were, as well as how profound the love and passion that you have for your country, as well as how beautiful it is. This realization came about as a result of the fact that I was able to see Brazil through his eyes. I am at a loss for words to adequately explain how happy I am to be able to remain here for a little bit longer.
During the course of his speech, Hamilton underlined the need of maintaining a long-term commitment to “fight for change and for diversity” all across the world. In addition to this, he said that whenever he travels to Brazil, he finds it motivating to see “so many people fighting for the same goal.”
