To qualify for the Extreme E championship, Andretti United teamed up with Acciona Sainz and won the Chilean qualification race.
There were many of wrecks and penalties in the first few races.
After the gun went off, the Veloce and Xite teams battled tooth and nail for first place. While this was happening, RXR, the reigning champion, placed fourth overall.
Three groups had problems with the timing gates on the first lap. Notable examples are the Veloce, Xite, and RXR engines. They got ten seconds of extra time.
Andretti United’s Timmy Hansen capitalized on a mistake made by his competitors to grab the lead. Second place was taken by Kyle Leduc of Ganassi.
After failing to complete the first lap due to an issue, a Veloce SUV stalled out on the circuit. Shortly afterwards, Ganassi’s Kyle Leduc, who had been in second for most of the race, dropped to the back of the pack after suffering a flat tire.
A damaged front suspension brought the race to a halt for the Xite SUV just before the halfway mark.
Andretti United won the race because they were able to avoid the incidents. After receiving a penalty from the stewards, the RXR team ended up in second position. Ganassi, however, crossed the finish line last of the remaining competitors and had to settle for third place.
Carlos Sainz got off to a fast start in the second qualifying race, but Sebastien Loeb of X44 eventually passed him. When the Frenchman clipped one of the timing flags, he passed his competitor and earned 10 extra seconds for his side.
Cristina Gutierrez remained in the lead and crossed the finish line first when the riders switched positions, although she was docked 10 seconds for the maneuver. When it was all said and done, the X44 came in at #3. Laia Sanz of Acciona Sainz, meanwhile, became victorious. The ABT Cupra duo of Klara Andersson and Nasser Al-Attiyah advanced to second place.
On Sunday, at 15:00, the semi-final heats will begin.
