Before his Formula One debut, Merhi competed in GP3, DTM and Formula Renault 3.5. He also tested a Formula One car in several Friday practice sessions in 2014.

The 23-year-old Spaniard signs with Manor and makes his debut at the first race of the season in Australia. Although he did not score any points, Merhi finished 19th in the overall standings.
